“I cut my locs because my birthday was a little over a week ago and I just turned 34. I’m going through a time of transition with a lot of different things, including my personal and professional life. I’m a clinical social worker and a therapist working primarily in healthcare with a network that focuses on undocumented black immigrants.
I had my locs for about two years. I recognized that I needed a change, so I started snipping my hair and combing it out. It took a lot of conditioner and moisture, but I finished the process after about two and a half days. I think that my locs were still in the teenage stage because they weren’t full length. After I decided that I was ready for a change, I told myself that this time around I would do better with keeping my hair moisturized and making sure to wrap it at night because that was something that I wasn’t doing often even before I decided to loc my hair.”
